Education Against Poverty- OneWorld

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

My name is Pema and I am from Nepal. I am an alumni student of Saxion University of Applied Science. I have had the opportunity to work together with Chris, acknowledging his great deal of knowledge, leadership and humanitarian spirit. Chris has been very generous to support with my crowdfunding project for the street children in Nepal. His contribution also resonates the goal of “Oneworld” Symposium and I am very grateful for his initiation.

The Republic of Nepal is counted amongst the poorest countries in the world. In my hometown, Boudhanath there are countless street children that are being abandoned by their parents and most of them are orphans who begs in the streets to survive cold and scary nights. In those scary nights, one piece of bread means the whole world to them.

ROKPA is an international charity which means “Help” in Tibetan language. It serves the moto “Helping where help is needed”.  Education has proven to be the most efficient way of assisting people in need to escape the poverty trap and to protect themselves against being exploited and abused. This is why ROKPA, through their education schemes, prepares disadvantaged children and adults for a self-determined life.

To give you a small idea of what your contribution could provide for the street children, here's a quick break-down of some costs:

Education

·  For approx. €112 / €179 / €133 one Nepalese orphan receives a year of primary education, food and shelter.

·  For approx. €241 / €386 / €287 one Nepalese orphan receives a year of secondary education, room, and shelter.

·  For approx. €59 / €94 / €70 ten adults receive adult education (reading and writing) and vocational training for one year.

These are just a few examples of how far your money can go. I have been supporter of ROKPA Netherlands for almost a year and have recently been appointed as a secretary and a legal administrator. I am involved in this project purely on voluntarily basis as it makes me happy to help the ones in need. ROKPA is run almost entirely by hard-working and dedicated volunteers; this year, ROKPA volunteers donated 27,770 hours of their time equating to a staggering €757,478 in monetary terms! This is what makes ROKPA unique - the large majority of donations go straight to the projects and aren't wasted on salaries and administration costs. Therefore, you know that your donation, whether large or small, is making a difference to someone's life. For example, this year alone ROKPA has helped almost 12,000 people and counting in Nepal.

And if you don't have the means to financially contribute, have no fear, there are other ways you can help. ROKPA is always in need of people willing to fundraise, to donate their time, skills, and expertise. Just drop me  an email for more info: [email redacted]  / [email redacted]

Please help me get the word out and make some noise about my project.

Last but not least, you can find all the latest info on other ROKPA campaigns, events, info etc on our ROKPA Facebook page:
