Girl 2.0 (www.girl2.org) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in California that is dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology by providing free computer science education to girls and other underrepresented minorities.
Girl 2.0 has partnered with Adharshila (www.adharshilango.org) to support the children of migrant workers in India’s capital, New Delhi. These migrant workers who came to the capital due to lack of opportunities in their villages have long been facing the grim consequences of low wages, illiteracy, and poor sanitation. The migrant population consists mainly of construction workers, rickshaw drivers, farm laborers, and domestic workers from neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Adharshila is a NGO based in New Delhi that works towards creating a sustainable change through education and digital literacy for the urban slums in Delhi. Over the last twelve years, Adharshila Trust has worked with 125,000 beneficiaries from different migrant communities across India. It strives to empower and enable underprivileged women and girls through vocational training programs, counseling, and awareness workshops.
Adharshila conducts a 6 month basic computer program for underprivileged girls of migrant workers who rarely have an opportunity to pay for such courses. The hope is that this skill will enhance their chances of employability later on in their lives. The course curriculum covers basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, typing in both Hindi and English, and how to use the Internet.
For a donation of $70 (Rs 5,000), a migrant girl can learn basic computer skills for 6 months. Please help us raise money for these underprivileged migrant girls – together, we can make a difference in their lives!
