On March 25, my brother was shot multiple times in a random attack while out hiking with his dog. His attacker had been on an 8-hour shooting spree targeting transport trucks along BC's interior highways, that ended when he came across my brother parked on a forest service road in Chilliwack. For no reason at all, this man boxed my brother in and fired 6 shots into his car, hitting him in the face and shoulder.
Cam was able to escape and after being pursued by his attacker at high speed, he came across some military personnel who gave him first aid until a helicopter arrived and airlifted him to hospital. He was incredibly lucky that he was able to flee, and that his injuries were not life-threatening.
In addition to his physical and emotional injuries, this attack will devastate him financially. Cam had just started a new job and does not yet have access to
sick leave or extended health benefits for the physiotherapy and other medical treatments he is likely to need. Moreover, his car was destroyed in the attack and he did not carry comprehensive insurance as it was an older vehicle.
Our family is overwhelmed by all the love and support we have received from everybody who knows about this incident - from friends and hospital staff, to the military personnel who saved Cam and of course, the police who have done an incredible job with both the criminal investigation and having our backs during an incredibly difficult time. We are now casting a wider net and hoping to raise some funds to help Cam get back on his feet.
