For those of you that know Eddie, it goes without saying he is most likely the kindest, most positive, and bright-spirited humans you have ever met.
On Friday, October 20th, while on a surf trip in Bali, Eddie admitted himself to the hospital after experiencing debilitating & severe headaches. Spending that evening in the hospital under watch, he later experienced multiple seizures.
After several examinations and MRI scans, the doctors diagnosed a stroke with a hemorrhaging in the right frontal lobe; resulting in loss of mobility and numbness to the left side of his body.
He has spent the last two weeks in the ICU receiving around the clock care and treatment. During the first week, he has regained feeling in his left leg and was able to squeeze his wife Maya’s hand.
During the second week he was able to sit up to 90 degrees and as a result Eddie was transferred to the general ward in Bali’s hospital.
Eddie is continuing to make improvements. He is now taking supported steps, working on getting stronger with each movement.
Although he has a long journey ahead of him, the doctors are amazed at Eddie’s strength and positivity, and the healing that has already transpired in such a short amount of time.
He is expected to fly home to Panama on November 6, 2017 alongside his family.
Financially, this has placed a large strain on his family. With complications in policies, the insurance that Eddie purchased prior to this trip does not deem “strokes” or the treatments required covered; therefore the Davis family will be facing a hospital bill of over $30,000.00 USD.
In order to get Eddie home safely on this long journey, it is required he fly business class. As Eddie is still under careful watch and his mobility is very limited, assisting him will be his brother David. The additional cost for the two of them to fly home is $9,600.00 USD.
Eddie’s wife & family have traveled from around the globe to be by his side during this traumatic event. His wife Maya and her mother flying in from Holland, Eddie’s brother David from Taiwan, and parents from Panama. Between flights, hotel bills and other incidentals they have reached a total of $10,000.00 USD.
Nearly $50,000.00 USD of hospital bills and expenses incurred over the last two weeks, the journey to recovery will far exceed this amount.

“Eddie-Everywhere” is nickname coined during his many years of travel and working abroad. Eddie has a passion for people and world-travel; working 13 seasons with the TV Series “Survivor” and travelling over 85 countries, he is known for taking all of life in and seizing every opportunity presented. Whether that is attending a 6:30 am yoga class with his wife Maya, driving 6 hours for an epic surf session, or salsa dancing the night away, Eddie captures every moment and lives life to its fullest potential.
Eddie and his wife Maya celebrated their first anniversary on October 29th, where she sat by his side and reminisced about the first year of their married life.
They now reside in Panama full-time. Eddie is the owner & operator of Pineapple Shuttle: a tourism based shuttle company throughout Panama. Everywhere Eddie goes he is creating memories and friendships. From sharing stories and knowledge, to going above and beyond to ensure each guest becomes a friend, it is without a doubt his bright spirit marks a special place in every soul it reaches.
What next: The after-effects of a stroke can be life-long; Eddie will be traveling back to Panama where he will continue along his healing journey. He will be receiving physical therapy and emotional guidance, with the end goal of making a full-recovery. We know that with Eddie’s passion and your support, this will be possible.
How can you help: Any denomination helps, large or small. All donations will be going towards the Davis family: the hospital bills, travel expenses, and ensuring Eddie receives the level of care required to make a full recovery.
As Eddie is self-employed in the tourism industry, he will be unable to return to work while he is recovering. This loss of income and addition of treatment bills will place a financial impact on their family. Help us reach & exceed our goal of $75,000.00USD ($100,000.00 CAD).
