Support Eddie Barber's Lawsuit

Eddie Barber invented the technology that allows filmmakers today to create films using video, opening the door to the world, and effectively removing the high cost of film as a barrier of entry for aspiring filmmakers. Known today as 24P, 25P and 30P, he was never compensated for his idea and his work by any of the camera manufacturers who have put his discovery into their cameras.

Eddie Barber invented the remote control camera boom (crane/jib). While he built a successful business for his Barber Boom, it quickly became irrelevant when competitors copied his work with impunity and then proceeded to take over the market for these products.

Eddie Barber has rushed into burning structures and come out with strangers three times. The first time was a little boy in Shreveport, LA; while covering a news story of a house fire. The second time was an elderly gentleman in South Los Angeles. The third time it was an elderly woman in an apartment building fire on Lankershim Blvd. in Sun Valley, CA. He has also pulled strangers from overturned vehicles, also three times. The second time it was live on 7 Los Angeles TV News stations. The third time it was a member of the California Highway Patrol. The crazy part is that the first time, he pulled a lady out of her overturned Fiat on Sepulveda Blvd. in Sherman Oaks moments before it burst into flames, yet he still continued pulling strangers from overturned vehicles.

Do you work from a home office? Eddie was instrumental in getting laws passed to make working from home legal; first in Los Angeles, then throughout the United States.

Most recently, Eddie Barber has been embroiled in a battle over a real estate deal against partners who thought his idea was great, let him do all the work, and then cut him out of the deal. The funds raised by this GoFundMe campaign will go to attorney's fees to sue his former partners, who Eddie considered friends. Eddie hopes to be able to recover the property or, at least, force a sale of the property and receive a share of the proceeds.

Eddie needs the funds in the upcoming weeks so the attorney can have time to prepare for the court hearing in the middle of September.

As a modern-day filmmaker, I owe a debt of gratitude to Eddie Barber. His research and his openness in sharing his knowledge was the foundation upon which I shot my first narrative short film using digital video as well as my career as a filmmaker. Whether you are a filmmaker or someone who enjoys films, and who doesn't enjoy watching films, Eddie Barber has given us so much and received so little in return. I cannot stand by and allow Eddie to have his ideas and hard work taken from him without compensation again and again. I hope you share the same sentiment as I do. Let there be justice for Eddie Barber, at least this time.

Whether you are friends with Eddie Barber, filmmakers or film lovers; let's come together to support Eddie so he can have the opportunity to, potentially, give us the next big thing that will take filmmaking to the next level. If anything let's show him that we appreciate all that he has done for us and not let him get taken advantage of. We have the power to do that. I hope you will join together and help make it happen.
