Announcing "Legal aid for environmentalists"

Please give to help defend the land and the water

VICTORIA BC - If you wre arrested for protecting the environment, who would you call?

If you had a case against a government or corporation to stop environmental damage, how would you proceed?

The Eco Warriors Legal Trust is a war chest and a safety net for those who put their freedom on the line to protect the land and water. Vancouver Island Community Forest Action Network (VIC FAN) established the trust to help environmental activists fighting tankers, pipelines, and the tar sands.

VIC FAN is best known for the Caravan to Wet'suwet'en, bringing tons of people, food and supplies to the Unis'tot'en Camp pipeline blockade in northern BC. All of our support is grassroots, and 100% of funds raised go to our projects.

Please support the eco-warriors here, or by sending a cheque to "Underhill Boies Parker in trust," 816-1175 Douglas St, Victoria BC  Canada V8W 2E1, along with a cover letter or note designating VIC FAN's legal trust as the recipient.

More ways to support land defenders:
- Contact us at forestaction@gmail.com to request action training for your community, friends and neighbours.
Volunteer for the Spring permacuilture camp (May 12-30) or the Summer action training camp (July 16-20).
- Send a note to zoe@wildcoast.ca or phone 250-813-3569 to volunteer for the campaign. Volunteers are needed in Vancouver and in Victoria.

The first test of the legal trust came in 2009 as VIC FAN challenged destruction of indigenous heritage sites. VIC FAN vs. City of Langford did not prevail in court, but the case derailed the destructive development of Bear Mountain Resort and its sister project, Skirt Mountain Village.

In 2010, VIC FAN took on Marine Trail Resort. The trust funded the legal opinion that put an end to plans for a massive (and illegal) vacation-home subdivision with hundreds of new houses along Juan de Fuca Park west of China Beach.

The public-interest law firm of Underhill, Boies Parker administers the trust at the direction of VIC FAN. Big thanks to West Coast Environmental Law and its Environmental Dispute Resolution Fund for its assistance.

For every hero on the front lines, there's a hundred more aiding them, cheering them on, and giving moral support. Join the Eco Warriors trust and be a part of this movement.

Thank you!

In today's news, a leaked report from the RCMP names threats to Canada's pipelines, especially the highly-effective alliances between environmental groups and indigenous resisters. We see this resistance is hitting the mark! I would just like to clarify that groups like the Caravan to Unis'tot'en Camp are land defenders, not criminals. Our supporters are our communities.

Become a supporter of indigenous pipeline resisters: Donate to the Eco Warriors Legal Trust.

Please share and pass it on. Thank you to our strong-hearted crew!
