The Eco-Ranch Educational Complex

$10,000 goal

Campaign created 44 months ago
The “Eco-Ranch” concept is one we developed starting in 2001, in response to the changing climate, resources and economics of the world. We try not to dwell on the causes of these changes, but rather how to best deal with the realities OF them.

Our goal is to create a mostly self-sustaining homestead: an “Eco-Ranch” where water is harvested from the sky, electricity from the wind & sun and food is produced in an environment that utilizes every part of what we have and what we create here and to educate others to do the same! We started and came this far with very little money. Here is a link to our "trailer" about the project:

In 2017 we began to host young people searching to learn about "off-grid, sustainable, unplugged" living that does not deplete or pollute the world's resources. We take these eager students under one of the varoius "work exchange" programs available now and they are helping with the labor to build the complex.

However money is extremely tight, as Social Security is our only income. That small income must buy building materials, as well as food for ourselves, the volunteers and our livestock that in turn, helps feed us all.

This completed project is to be a model for others to visit, spend time with and then leave to carry and adapt the ideas to their own chosen location. From there, the actions of our visitors, “students”, will carry the message to others and hopefully create a groundswell of people seeking to develop their own “individual infrastructure” free of “life-debt” and control from grid & corporate dependence while leaving a neutral or negative impact on the planet.

While construction is ongoing, it moves at the pace of our income. With your help, we can use the work exchange labor pool to complete the Eco-Ranch, several small cabins for guests and open the fully functioning , self sustaining, ZERO CARBON FOOTPRINT, 21st century farm. Please help as you are able!

With the help from a steady stream of work exchange volunteers, we have completed the new mechanical room and two stone walls on the complex!

We have had to slow down a bit on the construction though, as our incomes won't stretch far enough to buy building material AND feed the hungry, hard working volunteers.

The next volunteer arrives on March 9th and we plan on working on the walls in the main building, money permitting!

We have again received some donations from outside of GOFUNDME, one very generous one! These are going to the chicken coops & greenhouse roofing, as well as the new fence to fence the poultry in and OUT of our kitchen!

We are very pleased with the progress and still need to hit that goal of now about $25,000 to finish the public areas of the Eco-Ranch.

The web site has also been upgraded and now all the links work! Thank you all very much!

In the 10 months since we signed on with GoFundMe, we have raised over $15,000 outside of GoFundMe and been able to re-adjust our spending needs. This brings the remaining donations needed to complete the Eco-Ranch, to around $30,000.

With this, we will have a fully functioning hydroponic greenhouse, sustainable poultry farm, Vetiver grass terracing on one arroyo and the public & private area construction completed on this 7300 square foot showplace of alternative living, construction & food production.

We are still looking for a Texas University to sponsor our work and to inherit this place when we are gone. We feel this is a worthwhile project to donate to, as it will always remain in the public sector! Please help as you can!
