Eastside Academy, Inc began its mission in 2003 to improve and enrich the youth of the Lincoln Housing Addition in Clinton, OK. Its formation came in response to below average test scores and low classroom performance among the students who resided in the eastside of Clinton, OK. This led the founder, Lillian Collins, to begin a call to action that involved reaching out to the children and giving them the resources to achieve success. The vision of Eastside Academy began by tutoring students in community churches and public libraries.
With enrollment in the program on the rise, Eastside Academy stationed in a community lodge to provide the students with a facility to focus on their studies. The goal of providing at risk children with a place to grow was becoming reality. The academy began preparing the students with practice tests and study material. Through hard work and perseverance, the achievement gap began to close. Community volunteers were invited to come and tutor students, as well as take interest in their extra-curricular activities. With the message clear that our program was dedicated to the improvement of our students, Eastside Academy, Inc was incorporated in April 2009.
Today, Eastside Academy, Inc has grown into an education pillar for the community. Now stationed in an updated secure building, the academy provides a safe learning environment with attentive staff and teachers. The students are also provided meals by the Oklahoma Food Bank. Students are encouraged to pursue their talents in creative outlets such as, sports, ballet, gymnastics, and even musical theatre. Interactive clubs like Eastside Gents and Ladies of Essence stand to remind the students of Eastside to uphold civic duty as well as academic standards. Here at Eastside Academy, Inc all children are given the keys to their future and the knowledge to unlock the door that society may place in their way!
