Kim and Jennings Are Adopting!

IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!  

We have been chosen to be parents by two wonderful people!  We are so excited!  As most of you know, we have had a couple of devastating setbacks on this journey.   I felt it was never going to happen for us. 

This weekend our adoption consultant called us to tell us that we have been chosen to be parents in JUNE!  Yes, JUNE.  In less than two months, we will have a newborn baby girl to love and adore.   We also need to pay for this bundle of joy!  From the previous adoption that fell through, we have most of the items we need for the nursery, and we have about half of the money we need to adopt, but the process is quite expensive, so we are still short.  We had kind of taken a break from the fundraising because we didn't know what was going to happen, but now we have to kick it up again.  Please dig deep and give whatever you can. This is a literal dream come true.   We have lawyers' fees, consultant's fees, court fees, a new home study,  and birth mom expenses.   We will make it happen,  but will need a little help from our friends.  Any amount will be put to good use! Thank you for all of your support through this long journey. It has truly meant the world to us.

I have spent my entire life around children, whether it was in THE HOBB's day care, working in day care centers, babysitting, spending time with my nieces and nephews and, of course, teaching.  Children are my life. I always knew I would be a mom someday.  Right now, I am a mom to thousands of kids across the years as a teacher, which is very rewarding, but not the same as being an actual mother to your own child. Jennings has always wanted to be a dad as well. He adores his nieces and nephews and volunteers as much as possible to help out at school, so the kids there love him!  Being a mom and dad is a dream we share and have talked at length about with each other and whomever will listen! 

As most of our friends and family know, Jennings and I have been trying to conceive since we got married.  Last year we did just that. We were over the moon happy, but it wasn't to be. Sadly, we lost our baby due to a miscarriage.  It was truly the saddest time in our lives, but with the love and support of each other, as well as that of our friends and family, we were able to mourn the loss and move on (as much as you can).  

 We have talked about all our options.  Before conceiving, we consulted a fertility specialist who was cold and aloof and had the bedside manner of a twig. She told us of all the reasons we would never be parents and that our only option was to get an egg donor.  This was an overly expensive option that we really didn't want to do with no guarantees.  We discussed adoption and fostering with our friends who have gone through the process, and really felt this would be the best option for us.  We know there are no guarantees with this option as well, but we began looking more at the process.  

Our original birth  mom has opted to keep her child.  We wish them the best and know that all babies deserve to be with their birth mother if possible.  This was heart-wrenching and crushing, but we renewed our strength but grieving together and holding each other up.   That being said, we are still looking for our baby!   As you know, having a baby is NOT cheap, and neither is adopting one.  We will have attorney's fees, home visits, court costs, etc.  Now that we are searching for a baby to adopt, our fees will increase; however, we are looking for methods that will be the most cost effective.  Your donation will allow us to offest the tremendous costs associated with adoption.  Funds will be used for our legal fees, any medical expenses or needs of the birth mom and other adoption expenses. We have completed the initial visits for the homestudy, and our nursery is nearing completion!  We have such amazing people working for us to make this process as stressfree as possible, from our case worker to our attorney.
