Zee's (Patricia Coash) Surgery

Hello everyone, I am trying to raise money to help pay for my Mom's hip surgery that is urgently needed. While living in Nevada my Mom was diagnosed with a congenital hip issue called Coxa Profunda with Bilateral Acetabular Impingement in March 2011. This is a condition where the pelvic and hip bones grow to thick and do not allow for proper movement of the hip joints. It also causes bone on bone grinding and nerve impingement between bones.

In November of 2011 she had arthroscopic surgery to correct this issue on her right hip. The surgery was 100% successful. Her surgeon, whom was one of the founders of this condition and the corrective surgery to treat it, told her she would need surgery on her left hip within 6 to 10 years for the same issue.

Fast-forward to March 2017, my Mom now living in Washington State and was starting to suffer from the same challenges on her left hip as before with her right hip. She began the process to get the surgery on her left hip. While going through this process with her primary care provider (PCP), her surgical team and insurance, she discovered that while her PCP and surgical team said ye, this surgery should happen, her insurance (Washington State funded health insurance) denied the surgery. She also found out that Washington is the only state funded health insurance in the United States that categorically denies arthroscopic hip surgeries.

She then started the appeals process which she has now exhausted. Each attempt of the appeals process to her insurance came back denied. She received her final denial as of October 2018. To further complicate matters she is allergic to all medications that doctors would normally  use to treat her pain. Therefore, there is no pain management plan in place. Currently she is living daily with pain levels that vary from a 6 to 9 out of 10 and decreased mobility.

Because of these denials by her insurance the only option is to now pay for the procedure out of pocket. My mom has been able to negotiate $17,000 off the price of her original surgery in Nevada.  My mom has been working for 19 months to try to get this surgery paid for and done via insurance and nothing has borne fruit.

Because of the massive amount of pain she is dealing with every day, she is having challenges preforming her duties at work and participate fully in her life. The pain is causing depression and at times she has admitted to thoughts of suicide. All of this is scary to hear as her eldest son of four children. She has told me, “This pain honestly, no one should live in this amount of pain if a single arthroscopic procedure could fix it.”

I am trying to get these funds to pay for her surgery by February at the latest. Any little bit helps. These funds will help pay for the procedure that is 100% out of pocket as well as transportation and a place to stay while recovering. This surgery will alleviate the pain she is in and allow her get back to her work and her life. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am asking for these donations to pay for my Mom’s surgery by February 2019. Please feel free to reach out of you should have any questions.

Here is some easy math to see how fast we can do this. If just 500 people donate $50, the surgery is paid for with a little extra. If just 1000 people donate $25, same result. If you are willing to donate, would you also share this with two other people that you think might have a heart like yours? If you cannot donate, would you share this with 10 people that could possibly donate?
