Take a handSTAND for Homeless Veterans!
I ask you to imagine what it would be like to put your life
on the line for your country, to give your all to strangers. Your office is
located in a war torn country and your bed is next to a hero just like you.
Now fast forward to your return home or transition out of the military, for you
the cards did not stack up, things went a different way for you, not because
you are a bad person, rather life just did not work in your favor. Now you find
yourself without a job or a home. These are the same people that carried the
weight of their country on his /her shoulders now forgotten by America.
In a
perfect world this would only be a darky story, but it is REALITY. There is an
epidemic in our country. The amount of homeless veterans is increasing at an alarming
rate. Veterans are finding themselves jobless and on the street. They are not
there because of lack of drive or motivation. There are many reasons that
contribute to the epidemic raining from PTSD to Addiction to physical handicaps
and everything in between.
As a
combat veteran I grew ashamed at the lack of awareness about our homeless
veterans, brining me to this letter. I have been blessed and things have gone
my way both in my military career as well as my personal life. I have set a
personal quest to help raise awareness as well as give back to the homeless
veteran community in the United States. On January 1, 2012 I began a physical
quest to do one handstand push up each day adding another in order to use physical
feats to raise awareness, monetary donations and essential materials for our
homeless veterans. As a society it is our duty to provide programs that will
get these HEROS back into the workforce, the help they need and bring them
home.
Please
join me on my quest and let's work together to change the world for the better.
At this time I am searching for support, donations of any type, and resources
in order to expand my reach.
Thank
you for your time. Below are the links to my FaceBook page and a link to a
local news spot I did three weeks ago. Feel free to email me back with any
