Helping the Homeless

Donation protected

Jesus taught in Matthew 25:35-36, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you visited me."

About a month ago, I met a homeless couple from Texas.
I saw the wife of this couple standing out on the corner with a sign that said,

"Christians, please: we need help."

That got my attention so I pulled over to talk to this couple and  found that everything they own is packed tightly in the same truck they sleep in every night.

For FIVE months they have been sleeping in the cab of their truck and with the weather turning cold, they have to periodically turn the heat off and on during the night to stay warm.

As I have come to know them I have observed that  they don't drink and don't use drugs.  While I have known them they have actively been searching for a job.  Currently they are able to pay for some of their basic needs through a little part-time job.  I have come to see their willingness to work and have been amazed at the hope they have to save enough money to purchase a little camper that would sit on the bed of their truck.  They are so hopeful at the possibilty of  a comfortable and warm place to sleep.  The camper is $780.00.  I have seen the camper.  I saw the look of hope and excitement on their faces and I had to do something!

I think about this as I snuggle into my warm bed this cold and snowy morning.  I am humbled because I am reminded of how much I have.  A place to sleep.  A place to make Christmas cookies with my kiddos.  A Christmas tree, beautifully lit to remind me of another little family so long ago!  I don't have enough  money but I have a little.  $780.00 is so little an amount for a home.  I don't have a picture of the camper or of the couple.  I don't have proof that they even exist but if you could look into your heart and trust a little in the goodness of others, a couple of people without a home might just get one for Christmas.

And if you don't feel let to send any money, or simply can't, please pray for these two. They deserve another chance at having a home and their family with them.
