Black Bee Breeding Programme

Donation protected

My name is Phil Chandler and in 2007 I wrote and published The Barefoot Beekeeper, which highlighted problems with 'modern' farming and beekeeping methods, which cause problems for bees and other pollinators.

Now I am working on a local breeding programme for our native "black" honeybees, which are endangered by diseases and parasites brought in on imported bees.

We need to establish safe, sustainable breeding sites for these native bees, so they can regain territory and thrive once again.

All the money raised will be used to buy essential equipment and cover the costs of setting up black bee apiaries in Devon.

We need funds right away, so we can build up our colonies in time for the swarming season, the optimum time for raising new queen bees.

This is important to me, as I have devoted my working time to the welfare of bees and other pollinators. I am very grateful for all the support you can give to this project.
