About the Production
In order to celebrate the life and work of playwright Amiri Baraka (Oct. 1934 to Jan. 2014) for Black History Month, we are asking for your timely donation to this vibrant and powerful production of Dutchman.
Starring Alphonso Walker Jr. (Clay) and Megan Smith (Lula) both of who studied Dutchman at the Tom Todoroff Conservatory in 2016. Helmed by director, DeMone who had the immense pleasure of working with Amiri Baraka before his death, the production’s concept is one of immersion and community.
"I am so very excited about directing this work, but I'm also very saddened by the fact that this play (as written by Amiri Baraka) is STILL timely and makes us feel as if we have made very little progress as it relates to race and gender relations. I look forward to the important conversations that this play will invoke but I am even more excited about hearts and minds and paradigms that will shift as a result. Your support of this cultural and theatrical event will help to usher us into the space of healing and forward progression, which was at the center of Amiri Baraka's desire for this play. " - DeMone
