Peetnik Fam,

All of you know Jen Dikeman as the founder of our favorite weekly holiday, “Cheese Wednesdays.”  What you might not know is that for a long, long time she funded this event out of her own pocket. Even now that Peet’s is paying for it, it’s still a labor of love that she goes out and picks up delicious treats for all of us to brighten our week. Not to mention cleaning up after all of us savages. ;)
We just found out that Jen’s pup Duck has torn her ACL, poor baby. It’s going to cost $6,500 for surgery and aftercare, and Jen will be out for a couple of weeks nursing her girl back to health. Unbeknownst to Jen, I’ve started a GoFundMe campaign* to help out, and I’m guessing everyone who’s ever enjoyed their brie, grapes, and peanut butter cups on humpday would want to drop some cash in the virtual bucket too.

PLEASE donate if you can by Sept. 15th!

Angie & the CS Team

*Unfortunately, animal care does not qualify for Peetnik Care Fund support.

update from Jen & Duck:

Good Morning "Team Duck"

quick update - Duck is home and doing well....

extended version update...

It was a long day yesterday, for Duck and for her mom (although only one of us was having her leg cut open)... I had originally thought she'd be ready to go home by 11 or 12 but it took a bit longer....

I dropped her off around 8am (pre-surgery photo - she decided to be shy)

I didn't get to see her again until about 630pm when I picked her up (first time I saw her post-surgery).

Then we made our trip home... I have rarely driven so carefully & patiently...
(photos from the truck)
"it's my duck in a truck" ( sung to that famous Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg S&L skit about an appendage in a container)

The surgeon said the surgery went very well (there was a complete tear to the cruciate and the meniscus was damaged as well - so he repaired that also). He said that she was a wonderful patient and the rest of the staff commented on how absolutely sweet she was...of course, I already knew this ;)

My Aunt Molly met me at the vet in the morning and waited out the entire day with me... we ate at the restaurant next door (some cheese was consumed , I mean it was Wednesday!), we played cribbage in the car (she beat me 2-1), we talked, and we pet & people watched. We empathized for the dogs that would be walking up to the front door of the vet's office - only to figure out at the very last moment where they were - and then try to b-line in the other direction,... we "aaawed" at all the cute little puppies that would be carried in by their doting parents, ..... and we cried when we saw a tearful couple go in with their old dog and come out without him, knowing that they had just said goodbye....

I experienced so much, in just one short day, from just one small parking lot.... reminding me that all of us, at one time or another, are going through something, it could be exciting, scary, joyful, sad, uncertain.....

Yet one thing was so very constant for me throughout the day (besides my worrying) and that was the love and support that I felt... Duck and I are very grateful to have all of you, and our gratefulness grows....
