haiti mission trip

Last year I went on my first medical mission trip to Haiti. It was the most heart breaking, eye opening, soul finding and purposeful week of my life. We had a team of six providers and we served over 600 Haitian's in a week. We saw new born babies who were literally starving, young children packed into an orphanage who would watch us serve their people and wait patiently for lollipops and candy and whatever we could muster up to give to them from our backpacks. We saw frail and sometimes seemingly hopeless elderly people who walked miles to be seen at our clinic in hopes for a pair of sunglasses to protect their already damaged eyes from the beating sunlight. As we would bus to a new village each day, along the streets I would see children bathing out of big buckets on the side of the road. I saw a stray dog laying there next to a deceased dog as if it was waiting for it to wake up. Children chased our bus in hopes that we would throw treats out the windows to them.

All of this, and every beautiful Haitian that I crossed paths with was so kind and unselfish. They are people who, despite their struggles, smile and hug you and show so many thanks for any help that we can give.

I've been trying to recruit people to join us this January 19-26th for my second medical mission trip. Lots of people aren't able to make the trip. They can't get time away from work, they don't have backup childcare, they're uncertain they can raise enough money to make the trip, they're fearful to travel to a land unknown to them- or to witness the sick and poor people of Haiti. And that is okay. You can still help. You can provide so much to so many people in need by donating a few dollars towards my trip. Let's make it OUR trip.

Please consider donating and helping me get back to Haiti to serve and treat those that are in need. Money raised helps me to get there, and then to purchase medications, treatment supplies, food, and cover emergency medical care costs to those that we triage on our mission trip and need to send to Haitian hospitals for more intense and immediate care.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for doing what you can.
