My friends lost their beautiful four year old daughter after her lifelong fight against congenital heart disease. We are collecting funds to help pay for her funeral and to try to ease some of the crushing financial difficulties that they're sustained from her medical care.
Daphne was born with two congenital heart conditions (details at the end of the post) and underwent several heart surgeries, beginning at 10 days of age. Unfortunately in January of 2012, Daphne suffered a stroke while undergoing a catherization. She was given a 50/50 chance of survival. She lost much of her cognitive and motor function, but with therapy and her parents' love, she continued to improve and shine light everywhere she went.
Tragically and unexpectedly, her parents woke up on Saturday morning to find that their beautiful daughter had passed sometime in the night.
We are collecting money to help ease their financial burden, in memory of this wonderful little person who was taken from the world too soon. The family is located in Wichita, KS, USA and any help is incredibly appreciated.
About her heart disease: Daphne was born with Transposition of the Great Arteries. The arteries going into her heart were not where they were supposed to be. She underwent her first procedure at 10 days old. At five months old, Daphne endured a second open-heart surgery to repair an artery that had narrowed. Daphne’s fight did not end there. She was diagnosed with Pulmonary Vein Stenosis shortly after her second surgery, resulting in several heart catheterizations that enabled doctors to balloon a vein between her heart and lung. In January 2012, during another heart catheterization procedure, Daphne suffered a major stroke that affected both sides of her brain.
