Dream Center Second Year Tuition

Dear family and friends 

 For The past year I’ve had the amazing opportunity to grow in my faith, while participating in The Dream Center Leadership Program and serving in the city of my dreams, New York!   

 I have experienced growing closer in friendships, family and Christ and learning more about my true identity through the Gospel. Through hands-on leadership training, Bible studies, working and leading community outreaches, and participating in and leading church ministry teams, DCLP’s goal is to empower us for a lifetime of leadership in life and ministry. While I am there, I will be active in: classes, church ministry, and involved with many community outreach programs throughout the week. These outreaches are our opportunity to serve NYC’s homeless and low-income communities through meeting their practical needs while building relationships. it becomes like true family, rather than a transactional missionary trip in the biggest city in the world you would say. In addition, I have lead short-term mission teams and annual large outreach events like Toy Giveaway. Toy giveaway is a part of The Toy Association which is one of the largest Toy fairs in the world.  

 My first year of DCLP was a breathtaking experience. My eyes were opened, my heart longed for people that needed people and I heard God speak to me. My roommates became my family and I edited and filmed videos. I explored many areas of New York City... and it became home.

New York became more than just a place with flashing lights, but a city of hope and character. Characterization is revealed through a direct prosses that evolves over time. New York and everything in it was designed by man, and man was designed in the image of God. So therefore, every person in this city (8.5 million people) are designed and loved by God. They are telling their story. So, if Christ loves his beautiful creation, and there are millions of people who are strategically designed, who are different and have their own Characterization, that’s a beautiful thing. And just like this city has evolved, so have I.

The Dream Center taught me to climb inside the city walls, rather than the outside. 

 During the week, we would do our “Visits” program. Our Visits program is designed to build relationship with fellow New Yorkers and simply love on them. Whether that’s sitting down drinking tea, or cleaning a hoarder’s apartment for hours, it all come down to Christ. The mission and goal are to meet people where they’re at, just as Jesus did. Through that program I was able to see how broken and alone people are in the city. That, It’s not glamorous.  As humans, we tend to look at outside beauty first, rather than inside beauty that makes you who you are. Now when I see hoarders, I don’t see a person who has mental issues or doesn’t know how to take care of themselves. I see creation who is longing to be loved, adored and honestly a person who needs a companion. They don’t know that Christ has already filled every ounce of emptiness with love, and that can’t be taken away.  

 I have now applied and been accepted into the second year program and will be returning on September 3rd.  I am reaching out to friends and family for support. As a second year student I will have the opportunity to be even more involved in the hands on and behind the scenes aspects of Social Media, Camera work and Video Editing; working with assigned mentors to help me grow in these areas as well. My needed funds are for housing, food, laundry, metro cards as well as the needed tools I will need in ministry. My mission is to reach people where they are to where God dreams for them to be. I am so excited about continuing this epic journey with the NYC Dream Center through 2018-2019! It is not the end of the book just starting a new chapter!
