UPDATE: We are heartbroken. Tom’s body was found in a local park.

Body of missing professor found  - News 5 Cleveland

The police have not yet been able to determine a cause of death. With your help, we hired a private investigator who is still assisting the police in the on-going investigation.

With encouragement and support from Tom’s friends, we’ve decided to re-open this campaign to donations again. Our intent is to continue to use these funds to pay for the private investigator but also to set up a scholarship in Tom’s name.

In addition, we request that donations be made here in lieu of flowers. Tom was allergic to most flowers and would have been much happier with helping deserving students anyway.

Our other brother, David Short, is listed as the beneficiary of this account. David is responsible for the funds in this campaign. He has been working closely with the private investigator and has also become a key point of contact between Tom’s wife, children, parents and other relatives. David, after receiving approval from Tom’s wife and children, will disburse the funds as we’ve described here in the campaign.

Thank you so much for your kind words and donations. We truly appreciate you all.

My brother, Dr. Tom Short Jr., never showed up to Thanksgiving dinner. We want to hire a private investigator to find him.

Pennsylvania professor visiting Orange Village for Thanksgiving reported missing by family  - News 5 Cleveland

A popular statistics professor from West Chester University in Pennsylvania, Tom was expected to arrive near Beachwood, Ohio on  11/21/2018. When he didn't show up, family started combing the area and discovered his car parked in a hotel parking lot in Orange Village, Ohio. Tom's belongings, including his phone, were found in the car but he never checked in to the hotel.

After an initial investigation, the police determined that Tom had arrived in Beachwood earlier than expected - on 11/18/2018.  He was found on surveillance video at a local store and used his credit card at another location on 11/18/2018. But, after that, all trace of him was lost.  Police have searched the area and have continued the investigation but leads are limited.

Tom's family wants to hire a private investigator to assist in the search. Private investigators are expensive and we need help.

We need Tom to come home. Tom is a valued and essential member of our family. His parents, wife, siblings, children, cousins, aunts and uncles are heartbroken over his disappearance.

How will the funds be used?

Funds raised through this campaign will be used to pay the private investigator who has been thoroughly vetted and comes recommended by several Cleveland area law firms who use his firm extensively.

What if we raise more money than we need?

If the investigator is quickly successful in his search (let's pray that Tom is found right away!) any extra money raised will be donated to a missing person's fund or used to set up a scholarship in Tom's name.

Who is Tom Short?

I have know Tom all my life - he's my big brother and an amazing guy. But, don't just take my word for it.  Here are some comments from his friends and colleagues:

"[I'm] just another of Tom’s many professional colleagues who value him, his kindness, sensitivity and intelligence."

"I always look forward to seeing [Tom] and spending time in conversation with him."

"I've appreciated interacting with Tom each summer."

"I am a professor at West Chester University. Please let me know how we can help! All of us are anxious about Tom and are hoping for a successful conclusion to this story - that Tom is found and he is OK."

"Tom is a dear friend and colleague."

Please. Help us raise the money that we need for a private investigator and help us bring my brother home.
