Dr. Rabinowitz Memorial Scholarship

$13,646 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 176 people in 2 months
Created November 1, 2018
Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz was a victim in the massacre that occurred at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh on October 27, 2018. Dr. Rabinowitz's death should 'be a call for all of us to model his compassion and urgency to heal the world' (Rabbi Cheryl Klein). He was killed while rushing to care for the wounded.  Pittsburgh is a very strong community and he will undoubtedly be honored appropriately.

We, the medical community in Philadelphia, need to make sure that he is remembered and honored across the state. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. With the help of the family medicine residency program at the University of Pennsylvania, we are creating what we hope to be an annually awarded endowed scholarship for a graduating family medicine resident who embodies Dr. Rabinowitz's selfless devotion to patient care and community outreach. He was an excellent doctor and loved man. We need to tell his story every year, especially to young doctors, to ensure we rebuild our terribly unfortunate loss.

We continue to pray for the victims and their families and stand together against hatred.

Thank you to all who have contributed so far. We've raised over $12,000 toward the Jerry Rabinowitz Memorial Residency Scholarship. We have been working with the University of Pennsylvania Development and Alumni Relations Department and Family Medicine Department, and with their and your help, the scholarship has officially been integrated into Penn's scholarship programs.

Over the past month, I've spoken with Jerry's family, friends, colleagues and classmates, and they've assured me that this scholarship is a way Jerry would want to be remembered. Thank you for making this happen. We will continue to accept donations via GoFundMe in addition to the Penn Giving Pages link above. Please continue to pass the message on to others so we can continue to raise funds to remember Dr. Rabinowitz's passion and commitment to primary care and his community.
