Ferdinand went in for the surgery, got all of his back teeth out. Getting meds and eating well. He'll be going in for a follow up later this week. Thank you all so much for the support to help make this happen!

He's doing well hydrating over the weekend with meaty baby food mixed with additional water and has been eating and drinking more each day. Thank you all so much for the amazing support and well wishes in such a short time.

Steve's not the only one completely enamoured by Ferdinand. Painter Naomi here keeping watch duty as he's had a rough day. When I came in yesterday, Ferdinand kept clawing at his mouth. I saw he had been given a treat of some boney fish and was worried he might have had a bone stuck in his mouth somewhere, but didn't feel confident forcing my way into his mouth that I'd be able to help him myself so I tried to just help calm him down and make him comfortable. I kept checking on him and he was drooling profusely endlessly. Worried about fluid loss, I kept trying to offer him a drink of which he only took a few sips all night. In the morning I took him to Girard Veterinary clinic who are awesome and have walk in hours. They told me his situation was pretty dire with his teeth, no bone about it.
Upon return and since, I kept trying to offer him varietal liquids- water, milk, low sodium chicken broth, to mostly no avail all day but for a few sips. I couldn't bring myself to leave without knowing he wasn't slipping into dire dehydration. I asked for advice from friends versed in animal care for recommendations, which included getting a dropper to try to feed water, perhaps an ear care soft syringe- which I got along with the suggestion of baby food. After refusing the liquids continually for hours, but for an occasional sip, and pondering when to try with the syringe, as I knew the day had already been alot for him and didn't want to breach his trust by force unless it was essential, but he needs fluids (arg!), he got up and started wandering over to some crusty food crumbs. I grabbed the baby food, poured some into the cap and he went for it. I then tried adding some more water to the baby food, he finished the jar, drank form his bowl, finally, and went for the crumbs again, so I opened up a can of food for him and added more water, and he ate most of it! I am beat, relieved, and so thankful for the support y'all have given towards giving this amazing kitty a fighting chance.
