Downings Greenhouse

Downing’s greenhouse has been serving Sault Ste. Marie and area since 1973. In 1996 Art successfully relocated and expanded to his current location at Trunk Road, Sault Ste. Marie, ON, and continued his love of growing plants.

He was well known for his generosity, kindness, donations and support for local businesses within the district of Algoma and beyond.

January 2nd 2016, Art passed away, leaving his business to his daughter Shannon. 

Shannon is no stranger to agriculture. She carries the same passion her father did, and always greets her customers with a friendly smile.

As most of you know, this winter has been one of the worst the Soo has seen in quite a while. With all the snow, the greenhouse structure couldn’t take weight, and unfortunately collapsed, keeping only one part of the structure still intact. The extensive damage, cleanup and repairs are going to costs thousands of dollars, which a small business just doesn’t have.

 

I for one would hate to see the greenhouse close. Its small businesses like Downing’s Greenhouse, that keep small communities close together. Please support my good friend Shannon, and her husband George rebuild this fine greenhouse.
