THE INTRO
My name is Douglas Freer and I am fundraising to join Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and take their Discipleship Training School (DTS). YWAM is a Christian organization that sees thousands of young people take part in outreach, grow in discipleship, and develop their spiritual gifts and talents. I've served 3 summers at Gleanings For The Hungry, a YWAM base in Southern California, and feel called to take things to the next level with a DTS course.
THE PLAN
I'm intending to join Gleanings for another summer serving as summer staff. This September I will be flying overseas to take a DTS most likely involved in media/film/photography. Unfortunately the DTS I was originally planning on attending was canceled and I am now looking for a suitable replacement.
In the past it was difficult to keep connected with friends, family, and supporters, but now with my love of film and photography returning to me, you will be in the passenger seat every step of the way. I have video updates that are released on average once a week. You can view them on Facebook, View, or be added to my email mailing list. The mailing list notifies you when a new video update has become available.
THE COST
The main reason I've chosen the GoFundMe platform, is because I don't believe in hounding people for money. With this setup you can still be a part of the video series without the obligation of having to give, but the option is always open. Everyone can easily see the progress bar and know how far along I am in my finances. And for those of you not so keen on technology, I can adjust the progress bar with donations sent in by mail or given to me in person. For the early birds, you will notice the progress bar didn't start at zero. This is because I am reflecting the savings that I myself am adding to the fund.
THE BOTTOM LINE
I do not know where I will end up in the world 6 months from now. But I know I will be forever changed and I will have made a difference in other people's lives. The more support I have, the longer this journey will be. No one, including me, can see the end yet. As much as the financial support is a blessing, remember that prayer, and encouragement, are equally important.
