THE STORY
A few years into our marriage, Judi and I were talking about our future and she asked me, “When do you think we should start trying to have children?” After a deep breath, the words I told her were not the affirmations of a husband on board for having kids. Before I could process what I was saying, “I don’t know if I want children” came out of my mouth.

There is no doubt Judi has always had a desire to mother children. She really is the epitome of one who is capable, wanting, loving, and caring enough to deserve the blessing of children. Having children had always been a part of our plans for marriage and life. But it wasn’t until we talked about actually starting a family that the reality of my fears would come to a head. Truth is, I was scared. I feared being able to live up to the calling of a father.

We began to pray through my doubts of being a father and my fears of fatherhood. God began transforming my heart and I began to trust and walk in obedience. I knew Judi needed me to be on board if this was going to work.

Together, we were finally on a united front and began to pursue becoming parents. However, months of trying turned into years. Before we knew it, we were 10 years into our marriage and had not been preventing pregnancy for about 8 of them.

In 2016, we pursued medical treatments for our infertility. Trip after trip to the fertility clinic, we hoped for good news, but instead saw results that left us brokenhearted and confused, trying to understanding why God would fill us with this desire for parenthood only to be met with dismay. As hopeful as the fertility doctors made every possibility sound, it just wasn’t happening.

After trying unsuccessfully for a few more years, we could no longer handle the pain that accompanied each failed attempt. Through prayer and support from friends and family, we felt that God was opening our hearts to adoption. As God has adopted us into His family through Christ, it began to appeal to our call as Christians to “care for the widow and the orphan.” We began to question ourselves; what does this call mean for us?

From the day I met her, I knew Judi’s heart for adopting was equal to her desire to have our own biological children. To me, it was uncharted territory that resurfaced those same fears of being a father. However, every road we walked together, every person praying for us, everything we read pointed to the immense need for families to open their hearts to adoption. So we listened.

We are excited to tell you that ... WE ARE ADOPTING! To say it takes a village is an understatement. We are going to need the support of our friends and family like so many times before!

First, please pray. Pray for us that we have peace and wisdom walking this road. This will most likely be a long, tough journey. Pray for the birth mother of our child. Not only for her health during the pregnancy, but also how we may navigate our relationship with her moving forward. Pray for the opportunity to share the gospel with her and those along the way.

Second, please consider helping us financially. This journey has already been a huge eye opener to the overwhelming cost of adoption. Studies show that only 2% of couples that look into adoption follow through because of the financial burden. So when we saw these numbers, we thought the amount was not achievable for us. However, with the generosity of our family and friends through this process so far, we believe that the Lord will provide.

It is humbling to reach out and ask for help. We want you to know that we are grateful for everyone who is supporting us in any way at all.

Last, please help us share this page! We hope that our story can help others, raise awareness, and shine a light on the beauty of adoption.

Love,
Todd & Judi
