For the past eighteen months, I have used a Motability powerchair (A KYMCO Vivio). It has given me an amazing freedom and meant I am in control of my own movement, which is more valuable to me than I can say.
Last week, my powerchair was written off by Motability who viewed repairs (already completed) as not being fiscally viable. They intended to give me a new powerchair and - here's the rub - start the lease from scratch, meaning that I would have to stay with the same chair and same Motability lease for the next three years.
I had been intending until this point to change my plan once my lease was up, and upgrade to a plan that allowed me a car - the most mobility I can imagine, the freedom to travel wherever I want- and importantly - with whoever I want. At the moment I have to travel with Josie because she is the driver, and I know she's exhausted by being the only person who can get me around.
Back to now: my Motability contract has been terminated, and I can, if I wish, take out a car lease. But without a powerchair, this would be useless. The dealer who owns my powerchair has offered to sell it to us (for an as yet unconfirmed price, hence the goal amount may change), and then we would own it outright.
The money I'm intending to raise here will cover the costs of the chair, and also insurance to cover the chair for any future damage. Then I'll be able to have the mobility that up until this point I could only dream of.
