Help Dorchester Art Project

Dorchester Art Project is an artist-run space in Dorchester MA, Boston’s largest and most diverse neighborhood. With thirteen artists’ studios, a gallery, and a performance space, our mission is to support emerging artists and provide innovative, critically engaged programming, in an area not well served by the arts.

Right now is a vital time to support the arts and public discourse in our city.  Dorchester is an amazing community, and its growth depends on grassroots cultural spaces where people can gather to build new connections and have open dialogue sparked by the arts.

Here are some successes over the past two years:
• Providing over 25 individual working artists with affordable studio space and amenities
• Building and maintaining professional gallery and performance facilities in Fields Corner
• Producing six gallery exhibitions annually, giving exposure to close to 100 artists, curators and performers across all disciplines
• Hosting events and productions for a range of local groups, including regular readings by Project Poetry, and a two-month run of Praxis Stage’s production of Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train
• Connecting with local students at Davis Leadership Academy through gallery tours, and the wider community with Dorchester Open Studios and Fields Corner Main Streets

Here are some of our future goals for the next two years:
• Residency program for emerging artists
• Local youth art classes
• Artist talks + public events
• Staffed gallery
• Interdisciplinary workshops
• Handicap accessable stairway
•Upgrades to ceilings and security features

We want to remain a fixture in the Fields Corner neighborhood for many years to come, building our community by supporting local artists, putting on thoughtful, high quality exhibitions, and connecting to students and residents.
