STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE

Building on our legacy of collaboration as a core strategy, we are preparing to launch two new initiatives. The first is as one of the initial Resiliency Hubs in the Baltimore Office of Sustainability's Community Resilience Initiative. The second is upgrading and reconfiguring our facility to serve as a high quality, energy efficient and environmentally friendly community shared use space.  But we need your help to get there...

THE NEED

The building (built in 1900) is a solid structure but some improvements will help us better serve the community in our current and new initiatives. The funds we raise together will be used to support:

- Electrical upgrades to compensate for increased demands due to new equipment

- HVAC upgrades to support energy efficiency

- Library and media room updates

- Architectural Services to reconfigure facility to its optimal use

NEW INITIATIVE OVERVIEW

Resiliency Hub

For the Resiliency Hub initiative, The Door is working with Baltimore City government and other partners to launch one of the nation’s first community-based resiliency hubs. Resiliency Hubs help communities prepare for and sustain through a natural or man-made disaster. During an event, it serves as the central hub for first responders, city agencies and other organizations which serve communities in crisis.

 Shared Use Community Space

Collaboration with community organizations is increasingly seen as necessary to create holistic, sustainable change in communities. The Door with its 30+ years of experience and institutional knowledge serving East Baltimore, along with the large amount of physical space it owns, is a logical choice to spearhead some of these efforts.  Some improvements that would support this effort would be the configuration of:

o    A lecture hall to enable lectures and audio-visual presentations to be given to school children, community members, and guests attending special events/fundraising meetings.

o   Incubator space to provide office space, equipment, resource library and possibly mentoring assistance and capital to organizations that will have a positive impact on the Baltimore community.
