Support for Puerto Rico Fund

Donation protected
Hi everyone, this is Marly Rivera.

I wanted to inform you all that I am going to leave this fund open until January, but wanted to let you know that I am going to withdraw the funds we have collected so far to start sending them to worthwhile causes.

You have collected $34,891 (so far), which is incredible, and that puts us $15,000 away from our goal, which I hope to meet in the next couple of months.

After the charges from this site, we received a transfer of $ 32,003.61 to my account.

The first $10,000 dollars were just distributed to the Rene Rivera Relief Fund. That money will be earmarked to help children with school supplies and shoes, and also will be part of Rivera's efforts to do a toy drive for children in need this holiday season.

Here is a link to the Chicago Sun Times article on Rivera and his wife Mariel's efforts:

We are going to distribute the rest of the money among other charities, which I will be posting here as we identify them.

I just came back from Puerto Rico and I will be going back several times in the next couple of months and will personally identify areas of need and will let you know how we are contributing.

Thank you so much for all your donations to my beloved Puerto Rico.

Below you will find the description of our fund:

This is Marly Rivera, reporter for ESPN. The island of Puerto Rico was directly hit by Hurricane Maria on Wednesday 9/20.

Maria is the first Category 4 storm to strike the island directly since 1932. This level of devastation is something Puerto Rico has not seen in generations.

You can choose to donate to this fund, or to any of the other funds that have been set up.  Many of the other islands in the Caribbean have been devastated, and could use your help.

This cause is personal to me: My entire family lives in Puerto Rico. Please note this is a personal fundraising effort, unrelated to my employer, ESPN.

From our end, we will collect the funds and seek advice from the Hispanic Federation as to what is the best way to deliver aid to Puerto Rico: https://hispanicfederation.org/donate
