I never expected to find myself here writing this; I’m sure I’m not the first! I’m here to ask for help, any that can be afforded, & prayers!
Dagan was diagnosed with Vasovagal Syncope in September 2017, a complicated condition that causes frequent fainting episodes!
It began as an out of the ordinary faint; they said she probably just needed food! A couple weeks later, she faints again; ambulance comes, did some bloodwork, said vitals were good & she was only out for a few minutes, basically nothing to really worry about! But then she began to faint a couple times a week! The doctor visits begin! We get a referral to a pediatric cardiologist, what a relief! We’re finally going to get answers! After many tests, he tells us that Dagan has Vasovagal Syncope! Monitor the episodes, keep record of events were his orders! (Vasovagal Syncope is a condition that basically causes the blood to spontaneously rush & pool in the legs, restricting the heart & brain of oxygen, happens when in a standing/walking position)
HOWEVER, the symptoms have changed; episodes have increased to daily & now, often twice daily, including multiple events of fainting while sitting! The episodes have caused her to stop breathing at times, her heart to stop once, & she has a consistently low blood pressure that we’ve unsuccessfully tried to raise! We’re on a first name basis with most of the EMT’s from seeing them so often! She’s been restricted from driving, obviously, & she’s been placed in a wheelchair for the next 2-3 months, minimum! She’s being placed on a 24 hour heart monitor next week for the following 4 weeks! Her vision has also been impacted! As you can imagine, this is taking its toll on her emotionally as well as physically! She’s not able to be left alone, ever! I imagine that can get quite annoying! She’s been such a trooper, though! It’s also taking a toll on our resources! Due to an insurance change, our out-of-pocket costs have sky rocketed and become unaffordable, impacting our account & wiping out our savings!
In the meantime, we have a wheelchair & all that entails, cardiology appointments, heart monitor & the 24 hour monitoring service, neurology appointments, regular physician visits, weekly labs, meds, relocating to a more wheelchair accessible home without stairs so she isn’t restricted to her bed, and unfortunately, when the money is needed most, necessary time off work!
And that’s how I find myself here, writing this out through tears of fear, & even guilt, & also humbly asking for any & all afforded generosity! I’m setting the goal amount to cover the next 2 months of combined expenses for all scheduled appointments & related traveling costs!
