Our Dog Ivy's Medical Bills

Donation protected
Ivy is a miniature pinscher who likes to hide in blankets, jump everywhere, and curl up like a cat in our laps when I'm reading or my wife is knitting. But she needs some medical treatment now.

We've been to the vet a lot lately. She had a cough and a wheeze. We were pretty worried, but the vet said she had kennel cough. That wasn't too bad. The diagnosis changed to bronchitis. Then, after Ivy started losing weight, an ultrasound revealed a lump in her neck. It's pressing on her larynx and trachea already. We're not sure what it is, but it's possibly cancerous. She gets wheezy when she eats and even if she gets excited -- which happens a lot.

We're asking for a lot of money: $3,000. That's actually a minimum, but it didn't seem right to ask for more right away. Our vet wants to perform an MRI on Ivy to find out exactly where the lump is and how large it is. That will cost about $2,600 on its own. Then, once the vet has that information, we're hoping that surgery can remove the lump, which accounts for the rest of the money.

We need the funds pretty soon. The longer we wait, the harder it will be on Ivy to go through the tests and treatments. I had to take a day off work after the ultrasound, just because she couldn't get around very well. The tests and surgeries will be even harder on her.

I really want Ivy to get better. She's not just my dog: she's the reason I love dogs. I had a dog when I was a kid, and when she died I became one of those people who "hate" dogs. I didn't really, but I was too afraid of how I felt when my first dog died.

But, see, I sort of married into having this dog. She's my wife's. Ivy is very persistent: if someone is sitting comfortably on the couch, Ivy wants to be involved. If it's cold and there's a blanket, she will insist on it.

So, almost against my will, I fell in love with her. She helped me get over a childhood sadness I didn't know I still felt. She helps me chill out and enjoy simple things. Now I want to help her.

We would all be so grateful for any help you can give us. We just want our dog to be healthy, so she can jump straight up and down at supper time again, and eat without wheezing.

Here's one of the best photos I have ever taken. We're pretty sure Ivy is in a chill indie rock band and we just don't know it.
