Divya Prabha Orpanage in Vasai, Mumbai, India is a non-profit organisation instigated in the 70s to protect vulnerable girls who often have been orphaned or homeless, with no support or family. Without the help of the orphanage, they are left to be exploited and are at risk of child prostitution and forced begging with the money illicitly sent to gangs.
Last summer, I volunteered for two weeks and met twenty-five of the lovely young girls and women under the care of nuns Sister Rosaria Fernandes and others. These women rely totally on charity and gifted financial support to buy food, toiletries, school equipment and gifts.
It costs £280 per year to sponsor a girl for her food, education and living costs. We already have two girls sponsored, however, the more money raised the more girls we can aid.
