Legal Fees 4 Displaced Woman

I am a healthcare provider who has lived in New York City for many years, 10 of them at an apartment in Carroll Gardens that I loved very much. Last year, I was forced to abandon that apartment thanks to an abusive neighbor who made me fear for my life. His abuse had been escalating for years: physical intimidation, unwanted sexual advances, slurs. When I started to document the abuse, he became increasingly violent, threatening multiple times to kill me. The police and the courts were no help; I am certain now that if I had stayed I would now be dead.Now the management company is suing me in civil court for failure to pay several months of rent. Some of it, I do rightfully owe, because in the stress and cost of leaving I missed a rent payment. Some of it, I do not believe I owe. I am asking for donations to cover legal fees, as well as the full amount I will owe if I lose the case. Any money that does not go to this purpose, I will donate to the Sylvia Rivera Law Project to help other people, especially women of color, facing violence, discrimination, and an unsympathetic legal system.
