Dignity for New Nakivale Refugees

Hey, Nachson here in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda.
Although this is one of the best places in the world for refugees, the conditions in the reception center are unacceptable. This is the "welcome" area for refugees who are fleeing to Uganda, and many have been walking for countless days, across long distances after living through a crisis situation.
People sleep on the ground.
There are over 1000 children with nothing to do.
There is little to no funding for many basic needs of the newly arrived families.
This is one of the most dire situations we have seen at Nakivale. After witnessing the condition of the dormitories for the new refugees, we felt morally obligated to do something about it. Now.
Our goal:
- Get everybody who is sleeping on the floor onto a mattress, with a teddy bear
- Provide activities for the children in the one-room school
- Build a proper, safe, and fun playground
(If we exceed the initial goal, there are many other urgent needs to improve lives here. The list is not short and we will update you on our progress.)
Shadowman Van has been working in Nakivale for over a year collaborating with Opportunigee, a self-organized space for refugees by refugees, and have the proper relationships in the camp to act fast. While major organizations are providing many basic necessities, sometimes we need a jolt of quick action to fill essential voids that fall through the cracks of the humanitarian industrial complex.
As a global initiative, Shadowman cares deeply about culture and community building. In only a few hours, our fellow creative activist @ShrineOn added some much needed spark to this desolate, colorless area (see photo above). A quick and simple action of providing comfort, activities, and a space to play will go a long way to remedying this inhumane situation.
Shadowman will continue to find innovative ways to create safe spaces that empower people to come into the light, to imagine, express and share with others. Go to shadowmanvan.org to follow the journey.

Joseph is a close supporter and advisor of the Shadowman Van team co-created by to.org with a US social security number, and has graciously agreed to withdrawal the funds and send to Nachson Mimran, CEO and Co-Founder of to.org, who has already wired the necessary money directly to our implementation partners in Uganda, You&I Foundation. We've had to move fast to create impact in this vulnerable situation, but all money & purchases have been properly recorded for complete accountability.
