Nicholas Smith Memorial

On Saturday, July 7th 2018 Nicholas drove up to Lake Isabella for a short weekend trip with his family and a couple of friends. During a boating trip, Nick and 2 others jumped out of the boat to swim and as they all came up, it became apparent that Nick was in distress. The strong wind pushed the boat away as it stalled for several minutes before starting back, as the tide carried Nick further away after failed attempts to pull him back up. Our family at home in Los Angeles was notified shortly after the search and rescue attempts started and immediately made the 3 hour drive and remained at the lake for the 4 agonizing days it would end up taking for divers to recover Nick’s body, determined and steadfast not to leave the lake until Nick did. He leaves behind the love of his life, a 2 year old daughter and 5 year old son, all who were on the boat with Nick when this occurred and witnessed the entire ordeal.

Nick was 25 years old and would’ve been 26 on this July 16th. Nick was a loving and very protective family man who was lively and hilarious. Nick could make you laugh to the point of tears and had a genuinely good heart. All the hours in the world wouldn’t allow us to tell you every great thing about Nick and all of our memories, but we can say proudly that he was a good man. Swimming and being in the water was Nick’s life pleasure. He was so excited at the lake and was truly having the time of his life. He was heard saying it was the most beautiful place he’d ever seen. We take solace in knowing that although he would’ve loved to stay with his family, he was so happy and at peace that day.

Magnified by the unforeseen timing and shocking circumstances of his passing, this has been a huge blow to our family. We’re humbly asking for any assistance that can be given to help with his service, burial and transportation expenses that have added up due the distance from home of his passing. Even if you cannot give, we would appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers.

Further updates will be given regarding his service once those plans are solidified.
