Dialogues with Meg Hansen

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

My name is Meg Hansen and I am writing and hosting a Vermont-focused interview series on the YCN Network called “Dialogues with Meg Hansen.” These 5 minute segments strive to illustrate the impact of socioeconomic policies on Vermonters by offering a platform to citizens who have compelling stories to share but feel unheard.

The show airs on local television channels WYCU, WYCX, and WYCI, as well as a number of public access stations (NEK-TV, CVTV, ORCA Media, and WOA-TV). It can also be viewed on YouTube and the YCN website (https://ycnnow.com/categor/dialogues/).

YCN has agreed to produce 13 episodes -- the operating budget of which comes to $2,000.

The goal of this series is to garner sufficient audience interest and advertisers so that we we can create a 30-minute weekly program on the same lines.

My dream for this GoFundMe campaign is to elicit $10 donations from 200 Vermonters.

The goal is not solely to raise the money but primarily to:

(1) Prove that there is a critical need to give a platform to Vermonters whose stories are ignored and whose voices silenced by Montpelier and the local VT media;

(2) Create community amongst us Vermonters by showing that we are not alone and that together, we can make tangible change happen.

Check out our first 2 episodes below:

1) "The Vermonter Candy Closes"

Founded in 1950, The Vermonter Candy produced specialty maple brittles. This February, the owner Carolyn Handy announced that the company, which employed several people in southern Vermont, would be closing as a result of the rising costs of doing business in the state. Meg Hansen speaks with Carolyn about the legacy of her company and the growing adversities faced by small business owners in Vermont.

2) Does Farming have a Future in Vermont?

Mark and Kate Bowen, owners of Meadowdale Farm in Putney, discuss how heavy regulations, high financial losses, and creeping anti-farming attitudes have made life in Vermont challenging for farmers.
