Diabetic Alert Dog for Rodney
Donation protected
I'm Rodney Robinson, I live with Type 1 Diabetes. Every day, I struggle with the enormous burden of Diabetes. I never get a day off. We have been researching for years the possibility of getting a Diabetic Alert Dog. This would add peace of mind and security as I know I will be safe with my furry forever friend by my side.
I'm asking for you to help me raise money so I can get a Diabetic Alert Dog. These service dogs cost $15K. I will need $2,500K right away and these funds are used to acquire the dog. Then it goes into training for 6-8 months. Once the dog is placed in my home, I will need to pay an additional $5K. After that, I will continue to make payments monthly until the 15K is paid in full.
At night, my blood sugar levels drop dangerously low and my body doesn't necessarily wake up until I am in a hypoglycemic stupor. A normal person's sugar is 80-120, my nightly lows have been anywhere from 38-60. The dogs are trained to "alert" when sugar levels are out of the recommended range.
I am an extremely active person and love to compete in endurance sports like mountain biking. The dog can smell physiological changes that occur when my sugar is out of range. This would be especially helpful in my case when it is hard for me to disseminate if I am tired from climbing a big hill or if my sugar levels are out of whack. The dog is trained to "alert" me and I would know it is time for me to increase my food intake or bolus with insulin.
Getting a Diabetic Alert Dog would be a wonderful life-changing event that could potentially save my life. I know it's that time of year when everyone is asking for money, but it would personally mean so much to be to be able to sleep at night without worry. Please consider making a $50-5,000 donation to help me get a Diabetic Alert Dog so that I can live a better healthier life. I would be so thankful for any amount that you can give to help my cause.
