Diabetes support cooking classes

£80 of £1,200 goal

Raised by 4 people in 14 months
Help us fund free monthly diabetes cooking and nutrition support classes in London.

The aim of our classes is to empower people who have diabetes - pre-, type I, type II and gestational - and those concerned about developing diabetes, along with their friends and family members with new information and skills. Each class offers a nutritional lecture, cooking demonstration, and provides samples of delicious, health-promoting dishes, along with a take-home packet of easy and affordable recipes.

Here is what our previous participants have said:

and how it helps them manage their diabetes:

We are a group of healthy eating activists that believe health is a right and not a privilege and on the 1st Wednesday of every month we teach participants the Physicians Committee's Diabetes Initiative for free.
You can see full details here: http://www.pcrm.org/health/diets/ffl/classes/class-detail/116833

Venue address: St. Paul's Church, Camden Square, London, NW1 9XG (Walking distance from Kings Cross and Camden with several buses serving the location)

By volunteering our time it costs us only £100 a month including venue hire (discounted to £50 a month), ingredients, print-out, disposables.

We're passionate so we do this with or without funding but with your generosity you can help us take our work even further. This is outreach work for us.

And we do what we can to keep our costs down, including receiving the concessionary rate on the venue.

We're on a mission to get cooking classes prescribed by the NHS or Public Health England, this takes time and funding which we are working on (non-stop) but in the meantime we would still like to offer support to those that can use it and help them beat and/or better manage their diabetes. We can help people right now!

We have some fantastic optional features listed for those of you that can. You can choose from the Diabetes Initiative, Cancer Project, Kids Health, Employee Wellness, Kickstart your health, Healthy Basics or Nutritional Essentials and full details can be found here: http://www.pcrm.org/health/diets/ffl/classes

Diabetes is a debilitating dis-ease and it doesn't have to be. Where numbers once were up they can come down.

Here is what leading doctors have said about the peer-reviewed programme that is designed by Dr. Neal Barnard and fellow medical professionals of the Physicians Committee:

"The long overdue epic scientific breakthrough in diabetes is here…an obvious must-read for health professionals and for diabetic and potential diabetic patients." —Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., MD, preventive cardiology consultant, Cleveland Clinic

"This is the approach to follow…the clinically proven way to get your blood sugar under control… and start living again."—John McDougall, MD, founder and medical director of the McDougall program

"Dr. Barnard’s programme is no exaggeration…The signs and symptoms of diabetes can be reversed, and he’s got the evidence to prove it."—Jennie Brand-Miller, PhD, author of The New Glucose Revolution

And feedback from our fellow vegan supporters:

Our participants tell us: It's not that we don't want to cook, we lack the confidence, by attending a class in person and seeing and/or participants hands-on it helps to boost their confidence by empowering them with real accessible skills. That they can put into practice the very next day. Thank you for your donations. Our next class is coming up soon, please spread the word to those in need of some help managing their diabetes.
We boost confidence by teaching the how2
