       Hi, my name is Kevin Welch and I am a Firefighter/Paramedic for the Basalt and Rural Fire Department here in Basalt Colorado. I recently learned that my friend and former Basalt Police Officer Phil Martin, his wife Jessica and their daughter Madi had to move to Minnesota to live with Phil's parents Tom and Tricia while Jessica recieves treatment for a very rare type of cancer called choriocarcinoma (it is cancer of the placenta). At first Phil told me that they were moving to be closer to his parents, and he did not hint to me that Jessica was sick. I think he did this because he did not want people to worry and he wanted to keep it private.
        With the medical bills and travel expenses pilling up and the 214 mile drive from Aitkin to Rochester money has been extremely tight. Jessica has treatment every week, every other week it is a 3-day hospital treatment at The Mayo Clinic, it is a 4-hour trip one way. The alternating weeks it is local. I am calling out to anyone who can help this family in their time of need. Her treatment started two weeks ago and I will post updates on her condition and other info as it comes in.
