Dexters Luxating Patella Surgery

Donation protected
Our Pomeranian Dexter is 9 months old born in March. We purchased him from a breeder and our first visit to the vet we were told he was at high risk for developing luxations in both his patellas. At 5 months he suddenly began limping, walking on three legs. We brought him to the vet and got xrays, his right leg had somehow worsened to a grade 2 luxation. In October it seems as though the condition worsened and he fell because it had given out on him, the trauma hash brown  led to a grade 4 luxation only repairable by surgery and followed by a 6 week recovery period. I have spoken to the breeder and according to them, Dexters parents and two brothers do not have a trace of luxating patellas and it’s just “bad luck” and thus I haven’t been offered any compensation or help to pay for the surgery. Apparently their vet missed this genetic issue but ours did not (the examinations were maybe 1 month a part). Nonetheless we love our dog and we got the surgery despite not having the money to do so. It had to be done ASAP had we waited longer he’d have been on three legs and the higher risk the other knee would have had of worsening as his weight would have been on only 3 of his 4 legs (the right knee wasn’t able to be straightened at all).
The surgery was 3400$ with tax. Dexter loves to run and play and I hope he will be back to doing so in 2019. Thank you for reading this and your consideration for my cause. Every bit helps.
