Track & Field for Devon Alvarado

Devon Alvarado has excelled at competitive travel-team soccer all this life, but on a whim he joined the track team at Rancho Buena Vista High School in Vista, Calif., last year.

At the time he was a 15-year-old sophomore with no formal running training – yet he landed a spot on the varsity team. Then he took first place at every single track meet, helping lead his team of juniors and seniors to an undefeated season.

He is within milliseconds of breaking his school record in the 110 hurdles, with his fastest running time standing currently at a jaw-dropping 14.65 seconds.

Observers call Devon a natural. His coaches say he keeps beating the odds.

To round out his inaugural track season, Devon competed at the CIF state championship, among the very few sophomores in Rancho Buena Vista High School history to land such an invite.

“It’s pretty much unheard of that a sophomore his first year doing track makes it all the way to state,” his coach said. “It just doesn’t happen.”

But with Devon, it did. And now he’s been invited to represent his home state of California as well as the United States of America at two exciting challenges in 2015, the Junior Olympics in Chicago and at the international track meet in Australia.

He’s 16 and ready to take on the world. Please help a young kid from the mean streets of Vista make his dreams come true.
