Desmond's Family Fund

$16,370 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 166 people in 9 months
Created June 19, 2018
Desmond (Dez) was born with Down Syndrome in May 2017. Since the day Dez was born he has been a happy fighter and has overcome many obstacles.  He fights with joy and smiles, and most of all with determination.

Just a month after his 1st birthday, Dez was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He will begin several months of Chemotherapy treatment on June 27.

This fund was created to alleviate the financial stress his parents, Spencer Griffin and Mindy Schuehle, will endure during this time. We hope you consider contributing (and sharing this link). No amount is too little. Thank you in advance!

Last Friday, we announced that Spencer’s friend Eric would match donations made between 12/14-12/25, until we reached the $15k goal. Amazingly, we reached the $15k goal in just one day! Wow!! Thank you all for your support, and a special thank you to Eric. ❤️

Today, Dez began what is expected to be his last round of chemo! He will be in the hospital from now until mid-January, and then he’ll have to stick around Seattle in a hotel for about a month and a half (so that he’s close to the hospital) before heading HOME! Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers!
Happy holidays!

Exciting news...
Spencer's longtime friend Eric is committed to matching all donations made between today and Christmas. He kicked off "The 12 Days of Christmas Challenge" with a donation of $100 this morning.

I want to begin by saying that we are so thankful for the care that Dez is receiving at Seattle Children's Hospital. They are the best.

Dez recently had a bone marrow biopsy and results showed zero disease! But, he still needs to continue with chemotherapy because it would likely come back if treatment was stopped. He was admitted yesterday morning and is currently getting a higher dosage of chemo than ever before. It's hitting him really hard. They will have to stay in the hospital for a month.

If all goes as planned, they'll check out in mid-December for a week, and then check back in. This means that they will be in the hospital for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Spending the holidays in the hospital is not what they want to do, but it's what they need to do.

Thank you to all the donors! You are awesome!
We would love to meet our goal of 15,000 before the year's end. If you can, please share this Go Fund Me campaign.

Also, I've organized a gift-giving "advent calendar" where people can sign up to send Dez and his family a gift on a specific date in December. Here's the link for that: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0445AAA82E5-send

Thank you all for your ongoing love and support!

Hi Dez supporters! We just learned that Dez's chemotherapy treatments will be extended. We expected him to have one more round which would put him home sometime in November. But, his team of doctors just determined that he needs at least two more rounds, with the dosages being more intense than previous rounds. This means he will be at Seattle Children's Hospital until approximately January. Please send your love and support to Dez, Mindy, Spencer, Griffin & Hudson. This has been a long road for them.
