Buckfast and Buckfastleigh Defib

During a cardiac arrest, when the heart has stopped beating, every second counts. One of the most vital parts in the chain of survival is early defibrillation which could mean the difference between life and death. If this is delayed the chances of survival are greatly reduced, this is why easy access to a number of local community defibrillators that are spaced out around the community are vital especially in our rural town on the edge of Dartmoor where help can be many miles away.

Buckfastleigh community fire station have kindly been given permission from Buckfastleigh town council to use the telephone box, on Buckfast green, for the provision of a community defibrillator and BT have offered the electricity for this for free. The provision of the cabinet, defibrillator and installation is expensive so we need your help.

If successful we will then provide another defib in Buckfastleigh in a second area to compliment the one being installed by the local WI in Buckfastleigh town centre car park.

Not only is it vital to have a defibrillator but the training to use one and what to do whilst you are waiting for one to arrive. The Firefighters on station as well as other healthcare professionals such as the Asburton and Buckfastleigh community nurses and the Ambulance service  will provide FREE ongoing basic life support and defib training in both towns. This project gives the chance for everyone in both towns to be trained no matter what age or ability.

In addition to this go fund me page the Firefighters on station will be holding some fundraising events and challenges in the local area.
