Who you are helping:
Welcome to our fundraising page for the Deering High School Varsity Cheering team located in Portland, Maine!
Current team members include: Alivia, Allison, Carli, Dana, Elsa, Kailyn , Kassidy, Keegan, Lauren, Shayla , Srey, and Sunday.
The team is coached by Nicole Fitzgerald and Alison Siviski.
What you might win:
At the end of our fundraising campaign--on or shortly after January 31, we will draw two donors to receive prizes that were very generously donated to our cause!
For every $5 contributed, you will get an entry to win a gift certificate for dinner for two at The Regency hotel's restaurant: 20 Milk Street .
For every $10 donated, you will get an entry to win a Portland SeaDogs package that includes four tickets to a SeaDogs game and the opportunity to throw the ceremonial first pitch!
Where your donation goes:
We are hoping to raise money to offset individual cheerleader costs--such as cheering shoes, uniform undergarments, apparel, pom poms, bows, and meals during team events--for those with limited financial resources. This a cost that helped deplete our fall budget and we expect may do the same this winter.
If we are lucky enough to have extra funds beyond this need, we will continue this financial help for team members in future seasons or purchase items to be used by our entire team. If we exceed our goal by the thousands--wishful thinking!--we would purchase new cheerleading mats.
More about Deering Cheering:
Deering High School is located in the city of Portland, Maine. It has almost 1,000 students enrolled, and those students speak over 50 different languages--making it one of Maine's most diverse institutions.
The cheerleading program has struggled to be competitive in it's athletic class, which we believe is due to limited participation numbers and consistency within the program. We also know that participation is limited due to the financial hardships that part of the Deering High School population faces.
Some of our fall cheerleaders were unable to return for this winter season because they needed to work to help support themselves and their family. Of our current cheerleaders, some cannot afford gas or work the city bus schedule to get to all events, and others move frequently due to rent costs increasing in Portland.
Our hope is that this money will ease the financial burden of cheering, and make it possible for more Deering High School students to join our team in the future.
Past fundraising attempts have not been very successful, because of the limited resources of our team. This time, we are hoping to use gofundme.com to expand the reach to more friends of the coaches and team to help us out.
