Debbie Plante Transplant fund
Hello friends and family!
Many of you know my parents, few of you may know what has happened recently.
My mother, Debbie Plante, has taken ill.
Back in the 1970s she received a blood transfusion that was contaminated with HepC.
In the early 2000s she was treated and "cured" but the Virus had destroyed her liver.
Sense that time, she has been living on nothing but will power.
As of May of 2018 she her liver finally gave out completely.
Many trips to the ER followed as she slowly wasted away in front of us.
Unable to eat, drink, or rest at all.
One hospital gave up, told her, and us, that she was lucky to make it as far as she had, and that we should take her home so she can pass in peace.
We continued to fight, and took mom to Umass in Worcester.
There, she began receiving treatment and was placed on the Liver Transplant list.
As we waited, she continued to slip away slowly.
Some days her mind was clear and sharp. Other days she would slip into a near coma.
More than once we believed it to be the end.
Only for mom to find some fight and come screaming back from the edge.
On Saturday September 8th 2018 Mom received a NEW LIVER!
Tho it was less than ideal, It came already infected with HepC AGAIN!
Tho we believe medicare to be covering most of the major expenses from the hospital visit. The prescriptions, fuel costs, and lots of other important things are not.
Umass has saved my mothers life, So far the Bloodwork looks positive.But with both mom and dad retired, they are unsure as to how they will afford the long term expenses for moms continued care.
There are multiple meds, each with a copay of a few hundred dollars.
Theres the fuel expenses involved with traveling to see mom up at Umass.
there will be a lifetime of drs visits, follow ups, and who knows what else.
My parents have never asked for anything from anyone, they are proud and strong people. It is on their behalf that at this time I ask for your help.
They are strong people, but they cannot do it along.
