Death Goes on Strike
Around 1943 the composer Viktor Ullman and librettist Peter Kien were prisoners in a concentration camp where they composed a beautiful and darkly funny allegory about mechanized war where the character of Death, feeling quite put out at the extra work, goes on strike. When the Nazi's found out, they shut down rehearsals and eventually sent both men to Auschwitz where they were murdered.
Their opera DER KAISER VON ATLANTIS is startlingly relevant to the 21st century. By making older pieces new again with exciting designs, concepts and comfortable locations we can renew discussions to issues that still plague our modern society. And, hopefully, find resolutions through humor and imagination.
By funding this project through small donations we're able to stay true to our mission of being dedicated to integrity and design and provoking the imagination through socially relevant storytelling. We're also able to keep ticket prices low enough that high-quality performing arts can become a staple of the average household's entertainment diet.
This is our first project in the Denver area and we are excited to bring this high-quality bar art to this exciting arts community.

What We Need & What You Get
Live entertainment is expensive to produce but we're only asking for $3,000. This project is a labor of love and we're dedicated to keeping the focus on the art. These funds will go toward stipends for the artists involved but also toward a compact and flexible lighting and sound system that will allow us to bring pieces like this one to locations where Denver folks want to go anyway.

Some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean they can't help: If you don't have a dollar to your name you can still help us by spreading the word for the campaign. We don't have a development department and a full-time staff so we're delegating that fun job to YOU!
