My son Dean has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive muscle wasting disease. It makes mobility, among other things difficult. Until recently we used a medical stroller for trips that require walking(like going to stores, parks, etc.), but he is outgrowing it and also wants to be able to move independently like other kids and not "look like a baby". He has used a motorized wheelchair at school all year, but we needed to take it with us for the summer so he could have it for summer camp. I purchased a ramp to load it into my SUV, but it is much more difficult and dangerous to use than I thought. The first time I used it the ramp collapsed on my foot with the chair on it, breaking my toe. It also smashed my fingers, and sliced up my hand, it is not remotely as easy to use as the videos and reviews indicated.
I am asking for help to purchase a Bruno curbsider lift to move his power chair into the car in a safer manner, the lift is 2,000.00. I already spent quite a lot for the ramp which I will now just permanently use at our front door to get his chair in the house for charging.
I hate to ask for help, normally we are the ones fundraising for organizations like the MDA, but now we need help. Dean will need to have his chair at camp every day and it will need to come home every night for charging, plus we will have to frequently move it in and out of the vehicle to run errands, etc.
Thank you for your time, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to message me.
