Help Dean Kick Cancer

$81,420 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 465 people in 6 days
Created June 11, 2018
In early May 2018, Dean Matsubayashi was diagnosed with a brain tumor and is currently undergoing daily chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

While Dean is grateful to have a strong emotional support system, brain cancer treatment comes with serious financial concerns and unexpected expenses that the family would like to be prepared for.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 to support Dean and his family during this difficult time.  Any contribution is greatly appreciated!

In addition to being a husband to Kim and a father to his daughter Emma (10) and son Sei (5), Dean is the Executive Director of Little Tokyo Service Center, a community development and social service nonprofit. He has been with LTSC for 19 years and has served as Executive Director for over 5 years, leading a team of 100+ staff members to serve the community and support those most in need. We now look to his friends, family, colleagues and community to lift him up during his time of need.

Please make a donation, leave a note of encouragement and spread the word! The entire Matsubayashi family thanks you for all of your love and support.

Go Team Dean!

Hi! A quick clarification - the last update was from Kim & Dean. Sorry, we have some things to work out.
Tenaya wasn't writing about herself. WE love her and thank her immensely and all of you for the kind notes to the radio buddies, to Neil for letting Kim and the kids go to church, to our moms and dads, uncles and aunties, brothers and sisters, cousins, and for all the wonderful food, gift cards, etc., too! :-) --Kim, Dean, Emma, & Sei

Sorry, I am just learning how to use this website. But I wanted to share a note from Dean:
"We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love & support from all of you. We love all of you and are so thankful."
We are truly moved and have been so incredibly blessed by all the kind words and generous gifts and by all the help from LTSC, especially Erich and Tenaya and so many others...one of Dean's teachers even donated. There is simply no way for us to thank you all properly for all you have done, but we so humbly thank you all from the bottom of our hearts...and are slowly working on getting our thank you cards out.
As an update: Although the first week after the first diagnosis on 5/12 was quite terrifying and the symptoms were , Dean has been responding well to treatment so far, especially in the last week! His speech is almost 100% improved, and he is strong, much more alert, and restless (a good sign of course)! Chemo and radiation treatments are tough on him of course, but there are many signs that it is really helping to control and shrink the tumor. So, we are so grateful and cherish this time. We know that the abundance of love and kindness, prayer, and well wishes have made all the difference.
