Haiti Volunteer Trip

This summer I plan to travel to Haiti and volunteer at a free public health clinic for a community that normally has no access to health care. I will be working with YourStory International, an organization founded by a UMass alum that provides primary health care, maternal health care, education, and disaster relief to the rural village, Pont Morel, outside the city Léogâne.
For many years I’ve wanted to participate in volunteer opportunities in third world countries but most programs offered “voluntourism”, not just volunteering. “Voluntourism” is a trip that is part travel and excursions and part volunteering. YourStory is different in that the primary mission of the trip is to provide health care for the community. YourStory was founded by a group of Haitians and Americans in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake. Many other non-profits that came to Haiti’s aid, provided things that the Haitians did not actually need and often times displaced local businesses and workers by providing free goods and labor. YourStory works with the communities they serve to develop programs that will benefit them effectively and efficiently. YourStory only uses volunteers to perform specialized jobs and hires locals to support their work whenever possible, oftentimes seeking Haitians to perform leadership roles in the organization.
The cost of the trip is $665 which covers all accommodation, food, transportation, translators, and helps support the provided programs. In addition, a ticket to Haiti is about $500-$600. I’d like to cover the majority of costs for this trip through fundraising and donations, up to $1,200. Please help me reach my goal, any donations, even a few dollars, are greatly appreciated!
