Dayan's surgery fund

Hi All,

Max and I are running a half marathon on Sunday 18th November and  we have been training for a few months to get ready for the challenge (those of you who know how much I hate running will understand the pain ahead!)

We are running this in order to raise money for our friend Dayan. We met Dayan and his girlfriend Florence in Chile and we have become great friends. He is originally from Panama and is in Santiago studying Graphic Design.

Last year Dayan was diagnosed with a large Arteriovenous Malformation in his scalp. This is a rare condition in which an abnormal connection is formed between the veins and arteries resulting in increased blood flow and stretching of the veins. Dayan's life was at risk and he required urgent surgery to cut off the blood supply to these veins and remove them.

In February this year Dayan had small balloons inserted into his scalp that gradually stretched his skin. He then needed vein embolization to block off the affected veins and finally surgery to remove the entire area and reconstruct his scalp using the stretched skin.

The cost of the treatment and surgery was over £30,000.

Thankfully, the surgery was successful and he is now in the recovery stage of his treatment which is going to take about a year.

In Chile, there is no NHS and the health insurance did not cover any of the treatment so Florence and Dayan have been trying to cover the costs by themselves.

Any financial contribution that you could make, no matter how small, would mean the world to them.

Thank you so much,

Sam, Max, Florence & Dayan
