My dream has always been to be a business owner. After many years working for people other than myself, I have found a winning idea for a Boutique Shop in Basel, Switzerland. Based primarily around the stunning designs of French company Coton Doux. www.cotondoux.com
Coton Doux design and produce beautiful, artistic and inspiring clothing consisting of mostly button down shirts for men, women and children, but also ties, scarfs, handkerchiefs, socks and underwear. The beauty of these designs can not be understated with op-art, novelty prints and clever and original aesthetic additions, beautiful colors with translucent and high quality stiching and buttons. Shirts are available in fitted or standard straight cuts. With very reasonable pricing, (shirt prices will range from CHF 49-89) this is high fashion for everyone. I believe Basel to be ready for this product line. Clothing made with all types of customers in mind, from young to old, conservative to eccentric and everywhere in between will be stocked.
The store location has been scouted. (please see the main photograph). Located on the Spalenvorstadt 32, this shop is the perfect location for such a boutique, in the heart of the old medieval city centre shopping district of Basel.
After having finalised the concept with the CEO of Coton Doux, Hassan Mennour-Menjoub recently in Paris, and with full support of the company, I am now looking to raise funds for this physical store location. After having visited Coton Doux stores in the Marais section of Paris, I am ready to begin here in Basel.
There are no other products like this currently in Switzerland. There will be no competition for designs of such originality, quality and pricing. Coton Doux does not allow third party platforms such as Amazon or Ebay to sell their products thereby protecting the integrity of the price points. They are not available in department stores and only at the official Coton Doux webshop. Coton Doux webshop ships from France. Our pricing will be similar, discouraging ordering over country borders as to avoid shipping costs and fees which are always a part of buying on the internet and importing into Switzerland.
I am in need of funding for: rent and security deposit, as well as first inventory purchase, infrastructure including painting, furniture and shelving, website, utilities, and the seed money needed to found a LLC, otherwise known in Basel as a Gmbh. The store location is perfect, and the money needed to secure the location is needed quickly, asap. Store rent asking CHF 2100 per month, and 6 months security deposit required. CHF 14,700. The seed money need to establish a Gmbh corporation in Switzerland is CHF 20,000. The first minimum quantity order from Coton Doux requires capital in the amount of CHF 14,000.
Success here in Basel, as I discussed with Mr. Menjoub, would lead to the next stage, a Coton Doux shop in Zurich, and then perhaps in New York City, my home and backyard.
After struggling as a professional musician for many years, and working in retail, using my skills to enrich others, I have concluded that any real financial security in the future for my wife Rebekka and daughter Onna could only be secured by starting my own business. This idea is an absolute 'home run'. Fashion has been a love of mine since I was a teen. This concept represents a dream of mine coming true, to be self sufficient, while contributing to the beauty of Basel.
